Playing Tennis without Pain

Tennis, like many other sports, can place wear and tear on the body that can create pain, discomfort, or long-term physical ailments if allowed to go untreated.

During my career as a licensed chiropractor, I’ve treated many athletes for a variety of injuries, including “tennis elbow” (lateral epicondylitis). Many tennis players are unaware of the benefits of chiropractic care for their game and their health. A regular adjustment to fix the misalignments in the spine that occur under stress, such as scorching a serve or reaching for that backhand, can let you feel better and allow your body to perform at an optimal level. By treating the home of the central nervous system, a chiropractor addresses the source of many athletes’ pain. A pain-free athlete is more likely to perform at their best game when their mind can focus on the court rather than their elbow or back. Aside from the mental advantage that chiropractic care creates, it has a physical advantage as well. Maintaining proper spinal alignment helps to eliminate the biomechanical and musculoskeletal factors that often lead to an injury. Simply put, when your body is maintained like a high-powered racecar, it can perform like one.

If a tennis player does fall prey to injury, tennis elbow is the most likely occurrence. Today, nearly half of all tennis players will suffer from some form of tennis elbow. For areas outside the spine, such as tennis elbow, I’ve begun using a revolutionary new approach to pain therapy called the Active Release Technique (ART). ART is a new, cutting-edge approach in treating injuries to muscles, tendons, nerves and surrounding soft tissue—many of which are affected by tennis elbow. The damage that tennis elbow incurs consists of tiny tears in a part of the tendon and in muscle coverings. ART isolates the source of pain in the body then corrects any improper soft-tissue adhesions that may be causing the pain. The affected tissue is trapped while the doctor takes the tissue from its shortened to lengthened position breaking up any adhesions. ART is painless, cost efficient, and avoids the use of prescription drugs or surgery. Best of all, the ART system has a success rate that surpasses 90%. As a certified provider of ART, I have witnessed the success rate first-hand with the thanks of my patients who can perform sports as they once did years ago, or who can simply live without pain again.

ART isn’t only for athletes, however. The system can also be used to help carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic low back pain, neck pain and shoulder pain, as well as a variety of other symptoms that may be caused from activities ranging from typing to lifting groceries.

Some doctors, such as myself, have begun to combine the best of both worlds with complete pain therapy programs for patients. By utilizing ART and traditional chiropractic care, I can offer a comprehensive solution to my patients’ health. They feel better and are able to lead a more active life.
