Shoulder
Pain
Shoulder pain can be caused by
sports or other injuries when joints, muscles
or ligaments become inflamed. Some people even
blame their shoulder (or other joint) problems
on "old age", even though their other
shoulder, which doesn't have any problems, is
just as old.
Most
problems with the shoulder usually originate in
the cervical spine, as the nerves from this area
intersect all of the muscles and other tissues
of the shoulder, as well as the arm and hand.
If these nerves get irritated, the shoulder muscles
can become tight or weak causing dysfunction in
the normal mechanics of the joint, especially
in the rotator cuff. Overuse of the shoulder in
sports can cause the same affect. Poor posture,
sitting too much in a slouched position or with
the shoulders held forward are also at risk. When
ligaments and tendons of the glenohumeral joint
get so irritated, they can cause adhesions making
the joint stick together. The result is that the
individual experiences limited shoulder motion
and pain that makes it difficult to get dressed,
or groom their hair. If left untreated this "frozen
shoulder" can take several years to resolve
and therefore needs professional attention by
a Chiropractor.
